Tribulus Terrestris

Tribulus is believed to be an aphrodisiac.  Research suggests that it will increase levels of        testosterone, luteinizing hormone (LH) and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). These effects are attributed to the protodioscin constituent of Tribulus.

As with all herbal extracts potency levels can vary enormously. Our Male Rejuvenator and Female Rejuvenator formulas contain a high potency version which is standardized to 50% Saponins.

It also is believed to help enhance athletic performance, and help to reduce/eliminate impotence, spermatorrhea and painful urination. Some practitioners use it for angina pectoris, hypertension, high cholesterol levels, anemia, inflammation, eczema, psoriasis and rheumatism. Other uses include improving digestion, chronic fatigue syndrome and as an astringent, diuretic, tonic and as a mood enhancer.

Tribulus Terrestris is extracted from the Puncture Vine.  The applicable parts of the vine are the leaf, fruit and root. It contains saponins such as diosgenin and protodioscin, flavonoids and alkaloids

Preliminary clinical research suggests that Tribulus may have anti-anginal activity. It seems to dilate coronary arteries and improve coronary circulation. It also may lower blood pressure by inhibiting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). Extracts from the fruit and leaves seem to have a diuretic effect, which may explain the traditional use of Tribulus for kidney stones and other urinary problems.

Other preliminary research suggests that Tribulus may have anti-inflammatory activity as a  cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 inhibitor. In animal models of diabetes, Tribulus lowers blood glucose.
