I have some interesting feedback for you regarding your products.

Recently I had "gone off" my Total Balance Men's and Omega 3/DHA regimen, due to fact that I was working with a local holistic doctor who wanted me to experiment with certain specific amino acids and other supplements he was familiar with (and which he sells at his office).

The nutrients included EPA-DHA 6:1 by Metagenics (500mg), Folic Acid 800mcg by Doctor's Pride and TMG 500mg by Life Extension. After approximately 6 weeks of not taking my Total Balance, etc., I dropped into a severe depressive episode that lasted about 10 days, until I borrowed a bottle of Total Balance Women's Plus from a friend of mine who I had previously recommended your products to.

After just one day of taking 6 tablets of the Total Balance the depression diminished dramatically and has not returned in its severe form since! I am still having sleep issues, where I awake after 3-5 hours of sleep, and even though I sometimes fall back to sleep I rarely feel rested when I wake for the day, and I experience "brain fog" and lack of focus throughout the day.

I just received my order from you for Total Balance Men's, Neuro-Natural Sleep and Omega 3/DHA. Clearly there is something in your Total Balance product that is helpful to me in warding off depressive symptoms, yet obviously I still have issues with sleep as well as ADD symptoms.

My question is: given the information I provided above, do you think I should address the sleep issue for a period of time with Neuro-Natural combined with Total Balance and Omega 3/DHA, to determine if the poor sleep is the cause of some of the symptoms I mentioned or should I be adding one of the other Neuro-Natural products as well?

Keep in mind that I have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. The type of bipolar disorder I suffer from is slightly unusual in that I never experienced a manic episode until I was treated with SSRI medications (Zoloft), which "shot" me into a prolonged manic experience until the Zoloft was discontinued, whereupon I suffered very severe depression for months.

Approximately 2 years ago I ceased all prescription meds and have remained, until recently, rather stable during that time through supplementation. I discovered Xtend-Life one year ago and have been pleased with the results, especially given the reaction I had when Total Balance was removed from my regimen. I would like to continue experimenting with different protocols until I obtain, with your help, the proper mix for my individual chemistry.

You have provided me feedback recently regarding this topic, but I thought this new info may be interesting/helpful.

Thanks again for everything.

Answer: from Nicolien

Thanks for your email and for sharing your experiences with us. I am glad to hear that Total Balance has been such a great help for you, but am sorry to hear you just had to go through such a difficult period when you discontinued it!

Interestingly we have quite a few people with Bipolar that comment how Total Balance has helped them.

I see that you have already ordered our Neuro-Natural sleep.  Try using 3 tablets just prior to going to bed.  In addition to this you could also add Neuro-Natural Serenity to your current regime at the rate of 3 tablets a day.  It is OK to combine these with your Total Balance.

It may also be beneficial as well for to you to increase your daily dose of the Omega 3/DHA to 4 soft gels a day.

Question: from Connie (Subject: Reaction to Total Balance?...)q2

I have a friend who took Total Balance Women’s Plus at the beginning of this year. It didn't go well with her as she got constant headaches from it. She is allergic to sulphur but she is not sure if that was the cause of her headache. She reduced her dosage but the headache persisted until she stopped taking it after two bottles. She then gave LifePak a try and her headaches have gone.

Brett mentioned that his mother is also allergic to sulphur and also experienced headaches when she first started Women’s Plus, but her headache went away eventually.

What do you think may have been the cause of my friend's headache? Any reason other than sulphur? If it is because of sulphur, what is the reason why the headache would eventually dissipate?

Answer: from Warren

Some people experience headaches temporarily when they start Total Balance. However, it is quite rare.  It has nothing to do with the natural sulphur content in one of the ingredients… specifically MSM, UNLESS their sulphur allergy is such that they cannot even eat an egg…and that is very uncommon.

Sulphur is an important mineral.

If a headache is experienced it is highly likely that they are experiencing a detoxification process.

Total Balance is a potent detoxifier and will help pull toxins out of the system.  In many respects it is similar to those people who are heavy coffee drinkers and they discontinue.  They will experience withdrawal symptoms in the form of headaches.  This is due to the body initiating a detox process to remove the build up of caffeine and other substances.  When another cup of coffee is drunk that process is halted and the headaches go away.

A similar thing happens when someone who is in bad health or eats a poor diet attempts to have a fast.  After missing a meal or two the body starts a detox process and many people experience a severe headache that is relieved by having some food…which also stops the process.

Actually, having a fast is a good way to test how healthy you are.  If you are in good health you should be able to eat nothing and drink only distilled water for a couple of days and not experience a headache.

OK…back to the headaches.  If someone experiences a headache when taking Total Balance this is the protocol that should be followed:

  1. Discontinue all supplements (with the exception of the Omega 3) for several days until all signs of the headache have gone.
  2. Resume the Total Balance but only at the rate of 1 tablet a day.
  3. Three days later increase the daily dose by 1 tablet per day.
  4. Repeat the process as in #3 above until reaching the full daily dose rate.

With regard to her not getting a reaction from LifePak that does not surprise me as LifePak is basically a simple mulit-vitamin/mineral supplement with a few herbal extracts and other ingredients added.  It is unlikely to have the same potent detox capabilities.

Hope this helps clarify the situation.

Question: from Julie (Subject: Women’s Plus and cancer…)q3

I am wondering whether the hormone in Total Balance Women's Plus could potentially increase my chances of getting cancer?

Answer: from Warren

There are no hormones in Total Balance Women's Plus...  There are, however low doses of natural hormone precursors that help the body stimulate its own hormonal production.  They will not cause an over production of hormones.

These precursors unlike HRT have not been implicated in any increased risk of cancers.  Also, you can take additional comfort in knowing that Total Balance contains more anti-cancer ingredients than any other supplement that I know of.
