Valeriana wallichii, commonly known as Indian valerian, is an important plant species belonging to the family Valerianaceae. It is native to India (Himalayas). The active constituent if the root of Valeriana wallichii is valerenic acid, valerenol, valerenone, valtrate, Isovaltrate.
Extract of Valerian has been used with advantage in diabetes insipidus and also in saccharine diabetes. It diminishes the amount of urinary water in both, and lessens the excretion of sugar in the latter.
